Mike / MTGJedi

From powerful heroes and mythical creatures to enchanted objects and atmospheric landscapes, we created a cohesive collection of fantasy illustrations designed to make the game world feel immersive, distinctive, and alive.

About the Brief

When we collaborated with Mike, he wanted to build a game world that felt rich, immersive, and full of fantasy wonder.

The vision included characters that looked like they belonged in ancient prophecies, monsters with distinct personalities, magical elements, and environments that players could get lost in.

Our task was to create a complete set of fantasy art illustrations that could bring this universe together — from heroes and magical creatures to enchanted objects and eerie landscapes.

The challenge: Create a visually cohesive fantasy universe where every character, creature, and environment feels like it belongs to the same world.

Finding the Right Expression for Fantasy

The challenge wasn’t simply to create beautiful fantasy artwork.

We needed to build a visual language that made the game world feel distinctive and immersive.

That meant exploring different visual directions before refining the approach that best captured the world’s personality. From character design and creature forms to environments and magical details, every element was considered as part of the wider universe.

Fantasy World

01

The artwork needed a distinctive visual language that could bring characters, creatures, and environments together.

Visual Exploration

02

Multiple visual directions were explored to find the right balance of fantasy, detail, atmosphere, and personality.

One Universe Across the Artwork

03

Once the direction was established, it was extended across every illustration to create a cohesive fantasy world.

Bringing the Fantasy World to Life

The project was created to bring MTGJedi’s fantasy universe to life — combining distinctive characters, mythical creatures, magical elements, and immersive environments into one cohesive visual world.

We focused on building a consistent visual language that made every illustration feel connected to the same universe while remaining distinctive and memorable.

Fantasy Art Direction

Semi-realistic fantasy visuals with rich colours, bold forms, and atmospheric lighting.

Character Design

Distinctive characters shaped by personality, lore, costumes, and visual identity.

Creature & Monster Design

Unique creatures built through expressive silhouettes, textures, anatomy, and detail.

Environment Building

Atmospheric landscapes and magical details that establish mood, scale, and depth.

Bringing Characters to Life

Characters were at the heart of the fantasy universe.

Rather than treating them simply as visual figures, we focused on giving each one a distinct personality and presence.

From heroic characters to intimidating creatures, every design was developed with its role, personality, and backstory in mind. This helped create characters that felt like they belonged to a larger world rather than existing as standalone illustrations.

Exploring the Right Direction

Finding the right visual direction meant exploring different styles before discovering what worked best for the fantasy world.

We explored character forms, creature designs, environments, and magical elements to test different approaches. This helped us refine the visual language and carry the strongest direction across the complete collection.

The Outcome

The project brought the fantasy universe to life through a cohesive collection of characters, creatures, environments, and magical elements.

The final artwork brought together:

  • Distinctive character designs
  • Mythical creatures and monsters
  • Atmospheric environments
  • Enchanted objects and props
  • Detailed world-building elements
  • High-resolution game-ready artwork

Rather than creating standalone illustrations, we built a connected visual world where every element feels like it belongs together.

What the Client Said

The artwork brought our fantasy game world to life in ways we couldn’t have imagined. From the characters and creatures to the environments and magical details, every illustration felt distinctive while still belonging to the same universe.

Working with the team was seamless, and the results speak for themselves. They understood the vision, added their own creative touch, and delivered artwork that made the world feel truly alive.
